The traditional to the modern

A couple of days ago we visited the excellent Ghibli museum. It is basically an entire museum dedicated to the animation studio Studio Ghibli. It was full of really interesting exhibits showing up the entire process that goes into their movies. They also show a short animation which can only be viewed at the museum. We ended up spending quite some time in there before we headed to the shop for the museum. I managed to spend quite a bit...

After the museum we wandered around the area and wandered into a Fujikoshi Camera. Fujikoshi Camera is basically a department store full of everything you would ever want to buy. It was 8-9 floors and each floor was dedicated to something. You could probably get lost if you were not careful...

On the next day we headed to Kamakura and Yokohama. We started in Kamakura which is a small city full of shrines and close to the ocean. Our main goal in Kamakura was to see the large Buddha statue located in the city. After a lot of wandering we managed to find it. It was really cool and we were able to go inside of it. It is interesting to note that since the statue is outside and made of bronze that the insides are nice and warm in the sun. We also managed to walk along the beach and see some people surfing in the ocean.

After Kamakura we headed to Yokohama to see the biggest Chinatown in Japan. Once again we got lost trying to find it, but eventually found our way. From Chinatown we walked along the entire waterfront area of Yokohama which was very nice. I really liked Yokohama because it felt a lot like Tokyo, but a lot less busy.

Speaking of busy... Today we decided to go to Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya. These are all major districts in the western part of Tokyo. We started in Shinjuku and headed toward the government buildings. We then decided to walked around Kabukicho which is one of the more 'interesting' districts in Tokyo. After Shinjuku we went to Harajuku to go to the Meiji Shrine. It is one of the major shrines in Tokyo dedicated to Emperor Meiji. He is basically the emperor who helped to westernize Japan after they had shut themselves in for 200 years. The shrine was very beautiful and very crowded. We then headed to Shibuya which has to be the busiest place in the entire world. The sheer amount of people in one place is just ridiculous. Unfortunately we did not spend much time there because I think I had been out in the sun too long.

So far I find Tokyo to be very interesting, but too crowded. I think I enjoy the smaller cities more.

Daily Vending Machine and Sign

There are a lot of Hello Kitty themed stores. We found this vending machine outside one of them. The sign is the rules for the beach!

The entrance to the Ghibli Museum. You can see that Totoro is handling the ticket booth.

Some photos taken on the roof of the museum. You are not allowed to take pictures inside.

These photos were taken in the forest near the museum.

The best Japanese snack in the world.

We found the ocean!

This was outside of the shrine.

It was a really awesome statue. As I mentioned before the inside was very hot.

I took a lot of pictures of these narrow Japanese streets. I really like them a lot.

This picture was taken as we approached Chinatown.

Dinner in Chinatown!

Some pictures taken along the harbor front of Yokohama.

We managed to catch Kaminari Gate lit up. This gate is about 1 minute away from our hostel and has not been lit up before.

We found Kabukicho! The sheer around of signs in the area is amazing.

We found the movie theater in Kabukicho. We also went into the arcade that is right next to it.

At the Meiji Shrine.

So many people!!! This picture was taken in Shibuya (the busiest place on earth).
