Nikko

Today we went to Nikko.
Nikko is a small town, though not quite as mountainous as Ohara, as far as mountain towns go.
Nikko is home to five shrines, and is considered to be a world heritage site.
The local scenery was spectacular. The water was very clear and beautiful.
The stone marks the entrance to the world heritage site.
The temples were very impressive. Very colourful with wonderful architecture.
Each seemed to have different guardians.

We found a restaurant that welcomed vegetarians. Unfortunately, it and almost every other restaurant in town was closed.
Down the road, another interesting place. The Beetle Cafe. Metal Cola for 666 yen.

We ended up eating at a Ramen restaurant, although we only had about 40 minutes to eat before it closed. It seemed to me like Nikko is a tourist town, as there were a high number of foreigners there relative to most of the places we've been.

I definitely like visiting these smaller towns. The views there are incredible, and it is nice to get away from cities for a while.
