Maids and Samurai

G'morning people, I guess it'll be good evening in the west, eh? The as you can see in Matt's and Colin's Post, we went to Akihabara and Nikko the last two days. And like my usual morning posts, I'll be giving some input on the two days.

So first off Akihabara or simply Akiba is simply Heaven. It's basically paradise for all geeks everywhere. Almost all the shops and restaurants cater to some sort of geeky interest. We initially wanted to go to Nikko on this day but due to our tardiness in waking up and leaving, we decide to check out the area we'll be in the most.

Leaving the station, we were greeted with tons and tons of buildings covered in anime banners.

We wandered a bit, walking through several game and anime shops. I even ended up succumbing to Matt's addiction.

We also saw this awesome car.

But overall we didn't do too much in Akiba, saving it for later ;P

Yesterday, we decided to travel to Nikko. Located north of Tokyo, Nikko is where the Toshogu Shrine is built. This shrine is the burial grounds of the founder of one of Japan's longest lasting shogunates, Tokugawa Ieyasu. The actual shrine ground plays host to over five different temples. Each one with their own entrance fee, luckily there was also a "combination" ticket which grants access to all the major ones.

Because of the combination ticket we were able to go through the entire shrine grounds. But we almost weren't able to find dinner there cuz it was also happened to be a local festival-holiday. Many of the restaurants were closed because of it. Still we were able to find a restaurant that was close to closing. But we rushed through the dinner fast enough.

Waiting for the train for Nikko.

The Shinkyo Bridge, located before the shrine grounds.

One of the temples at the shrine.

Some of the temples were being renewed. The first one had an entire building built over it to administer the fixing.

Steps to the main shrine.

On the way back to the station, we found this awesome phone.

Dinner, some sort of udon bowl.
